Online hypnosis – does it work?

Posted on 16 February 2023

Following on from my previous post on this topic I asked the GHSC (General Hypnotherapy Standards Council) for their views on working with clients remotely via Zoom,

Skype etc compared to face to face. The upshot was that they agreed that a short survey amongst practitioners would be a good idea.

We felt it would be useful to help hypnotherapists who are contemplating remote working, and help in conversations with client enquiries.

RESULTS: The headline is that 75% or respondents (practitioners) reported on-line hypnosis to be the same or even more effective.

Here’s a selection of some of those key findings:

Qn. How would you rate its overall effectiveness compared to personal attendance sessions?

REPLIES: (a) less effective 25% (b) similar 63% (c) more effective 12%

Qn. How would you rate the client/therapist experience as opposed to personal attendance?

REPLIES: (a) worse 29% (b) similar 57% (c) better 14%

Sample comments also mentioned difficulties in picking up on ‘non-verbal’ communications and intrusions by pets, family members, visitors,

phones going off, and arranging appropriate view of the client. Upsides were that the client was more relaxed.h
