Panic attack

Panic has a long history of treatment with hypnotherapy. Panic can escalate over time to a more serious disorder, where your coping mechanisms start to fail, and ultimately lead to you avoiding anything that evokes feelings of arousal or anxiety.

A panic attack is where symptoms arise rapidly and peak within ten minutes. Symptoms may include:

• Palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate • Sweating • Trembling or shaking • Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering • Feeling of choking • Chest pain or discomfort • Nausea or abdominal distress • Feeling dizzy, unsteady, light-headed, or faint • Feelings of unreality or detachment • Fear of losing control or going crazy • Fear of dying • Numbness or tingling sensations • Chills or hot flushes

Help with panic attack using hypnotherapy

Conventional medical advice is to hold your breath for between 10 and 15 seconds and to repeat a few times, or to breathe in and out of a paper bag for a few minutes. However, if you experience really acute or repeated episodes, then it’s a good idea to get checked over by your GP. Having ruled out any medical issues, then hypnotherapy is a strong option to consider.

Richard uses hypnotherapy techniques to help identify and stop potential triggering thoughts in their tracks and break the cycle of escalation. Learning self-hypnosis and relaxation will also help ensure long term relief.
