Richard asked the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC) for their views on working with clients remotely via Zoom, Skype etc compared to face to face.  These ways of working were becoming increasingly familiar to everyone, and accelerated by COVID lockdown. They decided to carry out a short survey amongst practitioners, as a useful guide.

RESULTS: The main finding was that 75% or respondents (practitioners) reported on-line hypnosis to be at least as effective, or better.

Here’s some of the key findings:

Qn. How would you rate its overall effectiveness compared to personal attendance sessions?

REPLIES: (a) less effective 25% (b) similar 63% (c) more effective 12%

Qn. How would you rate the client/therapist experience as opposed to personal attendance?

REPLIES: (a) worse 29% (b) similar 57% (c) better 14%

Sample comments also mentioned difficulties in picking up on ‘non-verbal’ communications and intrusions by pets, family members, visitors,

phones going off, and arranging appropriate view of the client. Upsides were that the client was more relaxed.
